Private security officer injured by firearm will no longer patrol school

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A private security officer's firearm accidentally discharged while patrolling St. Joseph High School on Thursday, according to a letter sent home to parents.

The security officer needed medical attention.

The letter stated the school contracts with VSS Security to conduct patrols of the campus, but they are not allowed to have firearms during the patrols.

The letter stated the security officer involved will no longer be able to patrol the high school.
