Proposed ordinance would allow chickens in the city

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- An issue before the common council Monday night would allow residents to keep chickens in the city.
Under the proposed ordinance homeowners could buy a $20 permit and raise up to six hens.
Roosters would not be allowed.
Monday night is only the first reading of the proposal.
