ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has provided an update on a crash that happened Sunday evening at S.R. 2 and Quince Road.  

Police were called to the intersection at 7:39 p.m.

The initial investigation found that a 20-year-old Illinois man was driving west on S.R. 2 at the same time a 32-year-old South Bend woman was driving south on Quince, turning east onto S.R. 2.

The two vehicles crash in the intersection, reports said.

Three passengers in the South Bend woman’s vehicle were injured:

  • A 13-year-old suffered a broken femur
  • A two-year-old suffered possible internal bleeding and a head injury
  • A five-year-old suffered a brain bleed

The 13-year-old and two-year-old were taken to local hospitals.

The five-year-old was taken to a local hospital and later flown to a hospital in Indianapolis.

The two youngest children were not in car seats, according to police.

The drivers of both vehicles, as well as a 21-year-old in the vehicle with the children, were not injured.

Both drivers cooperated at the scene.

Impairment does not appear to be a factor, reports said.

This crash is being investigated by the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team.
