Public hearing set for casino proposal

Next month, taxpayers in the city will be able to voice their opinions on a proposed casino project.

Earlier this month, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians completed its draft environmental impact statement. It's looking to obtain a Trust Land to create a tribal village and casino in South Bend. This was just the first step in a long process.

The proposed location covers about 166 acres and sits near the U.S. 20 bypass. This proposed casino could potentially bring in 2,000 permanent jobs and about 1,500 temporary positions.

The meeting is being put on by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Comments will be heard at the South Bend Century Center, 120 S. St. Joseph Street, on Tuesday, April 14 at 6:00 p.m.
