Public invited to South Shore Line realignment project meeting April 5
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Community members are invited to attend the first public meeting for the South Shore Line Airport Realignment Project, hosted by DLZ on April 5.
The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dickinson Intermediate Fine Arts Academy, located at 4404 Elwood Ave. in South Bend.
During the meeting, locals will hear more about the realignment project, which will move the South Shore Line station from the South Bend International Airport terminal's east side to its west side.
The move is expected to reduce travel time between South Bend and Chicago and increase safety by eliminating up to 19 at-grade crossings.
The April 5 meeting will provide a general project introduction, share how the project has progressed and include what steps come next, according to DLZ project manager Anthony Glenn.
The meeting will be broken up into the following focus areas:
- Project partners
- Project summary - purpose, benefits/goals and schedule
- Alignment - deliberation, renderings and station improvements
- Federal process - National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
- Right of way acquisition
