UPDATE: Boilermaker Special crash kills 23-year-old Lafeyette woman
UPDATE: On Monday, the Tippecanoe Valley County Coroner's Office released an autopsy report following the April 24 crash between a car and the University of Purdue's Boilermaker Special. The deceased victim in the crash was 23-year-old Savannah Mason of Lafeyette, Ind.
Coroner report indicates:
- Preliminary Cause of Death: Multiple Blunt Force Injuries due to Motor Vehicle Crash
- Toxicology: Pending (Results can take up to 6-8 weeks)
- Preliminary Manner of Death: Accident
"This investigation is ongoing with the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office, and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department," the Coroner's Office said. "Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the family, and we hope they are respected during such a difficult time."
ORIGINAL: TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. -- The vehicular mascot of the Purdue Boilermakers, the Boilermaker Special, was involved in a violent crash on Thursday afternoon in Tippecanoe County, where at least one person is injured.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's office received multiple calls at approximately 3:58p.m reporting a vehicle crash on U.S. 52 in southeastern Tippecanoe County. The Boilermaker Special was traveling north on U.S. 52 when it crossed the median and collied with a car traveling south on U.S. 52.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was fatally injured and the two occupants on the Boilermaker Special were transported to a Layfette Hosptial with non-life-threatening injuries.
