SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Week three of Notre Dame football camp is complete, and Head Coach Marcus Freeman and Offensive Coordinator Mike Denbrock gave updates on where the team stands heading into the season.
The biggest question still remains: who will start at quarterback when Notre Dame opens the season at Miami? After the final practice of fall camp, Freeman said the competition between CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey is still ongoing.
Notre Dame held a closed scrimmage this afternoon, where the defense reportedly came out on top. On offense, the focus remained on Carr and Minchey, who continued to split reps with the first-team offense.
Coaches emphasized that improvement and consistency are the deciding factors in who earns the job. The staff is also preparing the offense to highlight the strengths of whoever takes over as QB1.
For now, no frontrunner has been named, but a decision is expected soon with game week just around the corner.
