Referee dies from injuries after being punched in the face by 17-year-old

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — A soccer referee died from injuries he got during a game.

Police say the 46-year-old was punched in the face by a 17-year-old player after a penalty call.

At first it seemed the referee only suffered minor injuries, but later at the hospital doctors found he had serious internal head injuries.

He died Saturday night.

The teen is currently in a juvenile detention facility and could face additional charges.
