Repairing the damaged boardwalk

BELMAR, -- N.J. --  Reconstruction work is officially underway on the popular New Jersey Boardwalk.

Governor Chris Christie was there for the ceremonial groundbreaking and so were a lot of local residents.

The crowd included many Sandy victims who saw the work as a critical step in bringing the area back to life.

"Because the boardwalk is Belmar. We have no amusements, we have nothing. We have family. We have the boardwalk," said Patti Vengal, Sandy Victim.

Hurricane Sandy destroyed the entire 1.3 mile stretch of Belmar's Boardwalk.

Belmar borrowed money instead of waiting for aid to come in to jump start the work. It's a $6.6 million project.
