Residents evacuated during Warsaw Chemical fire

Residents who live within 1000 feet of Warsaw Chemical were evacuated from their homes for about 4 hours Friday afternoon. Many had nowhere to go and spent the afternoon in the Walgreens parking lot.

Residents said they could smell fumes in the air when they were evacuated around 11:45 a.m.

"All I know is that the police department showed up knocking on the door and telling us that we had to evacuate and to come down here and wait,” said resident Melissa Wise.

After air quality tests came back clear, the residents were allowed to return home.
