Residents on Logan Street get new sidewalks

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Residents of Logan Street were pleasantly surprised to see the curbs and sidewalk program finally came through. On Thursday, city workers were out pouring a new sidewalk.

New sidewalks are the path to happiness - at least for one resident.

She didn't want to give her name, but said she's actually looking forward to winter.

"I'm looking forward to shoveling this nice new smooth sidewalk," said

"I am so thankful that we finally were able to do it with the help of the city. Absolutely. It's an investment in our neighborhood," said Lorraine Celis.

Celis waited 8 months for the crews to show up.

The list of people participating in the cubs and sidewalk program was so long t he city had to stop adding people.

They even offered refunds to frustrated residents tired of waiting.

Celis says it was worth it.

"It's now a lot easier for people to walk their dogs and even people with children with their baby carriage," said Celis.

Kerry Fuller of Premium Concrete Services is working through all of the projects as quickly as possible.

"Usually right around 2 days. depending on the size. Like I said, this one is 90 feet we did one that is 200 feet long and it took us 2 and a half days so depending on the sizes," said Fuller.

Fuller says they have a list of about 50 more houses so they will be working through the late fall to complete the work.
