‘Rise and Roar’: Prayer vigil held for New Prairie Baseball Team after bus crash

NEW CARLISLE, Ind. -- The New Prairie High School community gathered Fri. evening at the New Prairie Baseball Field following the devastating chain-reaction crash out of LaPorte County late Thurs. afternoon.

The crash left seven student athletes and two coaches injured, but only two remain in the hospital, including 16-year-old Lucas Bradshaw. Bradshaw was airlifted from the crash scene and is currently in life-threatening condition.

In response to the crash and to give a show of strength for those injured, over a hundred community members gathered in pain and shock to pray together.

“Going through the last 24, 20 something hours that we’ve had… you know these young men standing in front of us, I’m amazing by their strength… We have a hope for a brighter future. It starts with New Prairie, we’re not the only ones that have gone through accidents like this, but this is something that we will… rise from. We will be better tomorrow because of some of the things that we have learned, the relationships that we built,” said the New Prairie High School Principal, Justin Heinold.
