Road project to cause delays near Niles, Buchanan starting Nov. 4

BUCHANAN, Mich. -- The Berrien County Road Department began prep work this morning for a project on Bertrand Road in Bertrand Township, between U.S. 31 and Portage Road. 

The project will kick off, in full, on Monday, Nov. 4, and is set to be complete by early next week. Drivers can expect intermittent lane closure during the work.

"The Bertrand Road improvement project will include the roadway being widened prior to resurfacing with a 2” asphalt overlay," road department officials said. "Bertrand Road will have intermittent lane closures between U.S. 31 and Portage Road

Work schedule:

  • Driveway preparation on Friday, Nov. 1
  • Milling and prep work: Monday, Nov. 4 and Tuesday, Nov. 5
  • Paving: Wednesday, Nov. 6 and Thursday, Nov. 7
  • Shoulder Gravel: Friday, Nov. 8

During the project, the flow of traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Motorists should expect possible travel delays and stopping should be expected.
