Roads will worsen in spots tonight

Winter Storm Warning is in effect for St. Joseph (IN), LaPorte, Berrien, Cass, Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall, and Starke counties until 7 PM Christmas Day.

Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Pulaski and Fulton counties until 7 PM tonight, and a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for LaGrange, and St. Joseph (MI) until 10 PM tonight.

The system bringing us snow throughout the rest of the afternoon and evening will move off to the east of Michiana by around 10 PM. This will bring a gradual end to the snow for the counties in the winter weather advisories. Snowfall totals by this evening will be 3-6 inches. However, lake effect snow will bring more snow to some overnight.

A lake effect snow band will develop in the north-south direction this evening by around 7PM. This will bring heavy snow, reduced visibility and a chance for white outs. This band will move east until around 1 AM when it starts to dissipate. *All counties under the Winter Storm Warning can expect this heavy lake effect snow.*  An additional 2-4 inches will fall overnight, bringing the highest snowfall totals to between 5-9" by Christmas night.

Snow will come to an end by Christmas morning. More lake effect snow will develop in the west-east direction mid morning for our Michigan counties. Snow will end by the evening.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with system snow changing over to lake effect. Another 2-4” possible. Low of 17.

Christmas Day: Mostly cloudy and windy with lake effect snow showers. 1-2” possible. High of 23.

Tuesday: Partly sunny and breezy with a chance of lake effect snow showers mainly in Michigan. Highs in the low teens.
