Robotic underwater lab launched

A robotic underwater lab was deployed in Lake Erie, on Wednesday.

The laboratory was created to detect toxins that threaten Michigan’s water supplies.

The device is at the bottom of the lake and will give researchers a notice of highly toxic water drifting into Lake Erie.

The project is to prevent the same tap water contamination crisis in 2014, which prompted a “do not drink” order for more than 400,000 residents.

Two more devices will be launched next summer.
