Rokita: ‘juvenile court did not abuse its discretion’ in Hutchens case

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Todd Rokita believes the juvenile court did not abuse its discretion when it waived Anthony Hutchens' case to adult court, the Attorney General for the state of Indiana said in an appellee brief issued Monday morning.

Rokita said it was in the best interest of the community’s safety that Hutchens be tried as an adult.

He also agreed with the court when it stated Hutchens would need rehabilitative treatment beyond what the juvenile court could provide.

Hutchens is currently in a juvenile facility within the Indiana Department of Corrections.

This is not the final decision. The court will now look over the arguments of the state and Hutchens' legal team and decide whether Hutchens' appeal is granted or denied.
