Runners take part in first ever Freaky 5K

Saturday morning kicked off the first ever Freaky 5K Halloween Run and Walk put on by the Kosciusko Runner's Association. The run started near the K21 Health Pavilion in Warsaw and went throughout the Lake City Greenway and ended back at the Pavilion.

For the first year, organizers and volunteers were surprised at the participation prior to the race.

“We were first hoping for a big amount then when we got to talk to some of the people, we were hoping to get 100, and we had a 169 pre-registered,” said Cancer Care Fund Volunteer Ron Smock.

The race kicked off at 9:30 a.m. and the money raised from it goes to benefit Kosciusko County residents in their fight against cancer.

“The neat thing about this fund is that it’s all raised in Kosciusko County for Kosciusko County residents and 100% of all the money, the net money that we raise goes into the fund,” Smock added.

The money goes to benefit the Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County.
