Safe Kids will sponsor two car seat events Friday

Safe Kids Elkhart County and its team of certified car seat technicians will be at two locations Friday to make sure children are riding safely in vehicles.

The free car-seat checks in Elkhart will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Heart City Health Center, 236 Simpson Ave., and from 3 to 6 p.m. at Growing Kids Learning Center, 825 W. Bristol St.

During the drive-through events, child passenger safety professionals evaluate car seats in use and provide useful information to adults and kids.

These events are made possible through grant funding provided by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. Earlier this year, ICJI approved Safe Kids’ request for $7,700 to purchase resources and give education to parents and caregivers on proper car-seat installation.

For residents unable to attend the clinic, a fitting station is available during business hours at the Elkhart County Health Department, 608 Oakland Ave., Elkhart. For more information, visit facebook.com/safekidselkhartcounty or call (574) 523-2112 to schedule an appointment.
