Salvation Army hands out toys

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Santa's helpers are hard at work at the Salvation Army.

Volunteers handed out hundreds of toys on South Olive Street to local kids in need.

It is all part of the annual toy shop program.

This year the Salvation Army helped more than 1,100 area families.

"This type of program is extremely important," said Libby Unruh, social services director at the Kroc Center. "We have a lot of families in the county that wouldn't have any kind of Christmas if it weren't for the generosity of community members that put programs like this on."

The Salvation Army also handed out clothes, coats and Christmas dinners too.
