Salvation Army hosts Thanksgiving community luncheon
ELKHART, Ind. -- It was quite the Thanksgiving feast in Elkhart on Thanksgiving Day as the Salvation Army welcomed hundreds in the community for a special dinner.
Volunteers have been working all week to prepare for the dinner at the Matterhorn Conference Center.
Nearly 80 turkeys and 700 pounds of potatoes were cooked for the luncheon.
Those who put on the dinner said they just hoped they had enough to feed everyone.
"This is just great for the community. I love the fellowship," said Kurt Janowsky. "People just seem to be enjoying the food which I appreciate. I just hope we have enough. The crowds are much bigger than they've been in years past."
The Salvation Army expected nearly 2,000 people to show up.
