Salvation Army in St. Joseph County exceeds fundraising goal

The Salvation Army in St. Joseph County exceeded its goal for the 2015 Red Kettle campaign.

The Salvation Army raised more than $135,000.

They raised $99,000 in 2014.

The organization says it received more assistance applications, Adopt-A-Family applications and Toys for Tots donations than ever before.

They are thrilled with the community's generosity.

"To see people every year, more volunteers, it seems like coming together to help.  It is very heart-warming. It is more blessed to give than receive. And again the community, they step up and do that. It's absolutely phenomenal.  It's great to see," said Lt. Karl Blessing of the Salvation Army.

There's still time to donate. The bell ringing campaign wraps up at the end of the month.
