SBCSC makes move to new administration building

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Community School Corporation announced on Wednesday that it has successfully relocated its downtown headquarters from Doctor Martin Luther King Boulevard to the former Edythe J. Brown Intermediate School on Beale Street.

"The new administration building is particularly significant for the district," school officials said. "Following the relocation, the City of South Bend will own the downtown facility."

Officials say SBCSC has spent $2.3 million from the city’s administration building purchase to repurpose the former Brown Intermediate School.

The decision is expected to generate an annual savings of $1.8 million.

"We are thrilled to fulfill another referendum promise by relocating the administration building to the former Brown Intermediate," Dr. Todd Cummings, superintendent of South Bend Schools said. "We are dedicated to keeping our word and are excited to honor the community's request."

Additionally, the relocation to the Keller Park neighborhood on the northwest side of South Bend is anticipated to address previous parking challenges faced at the downtown administration building, "ultimately improving accessibility for parents and community members seeking important information and services."

"The relocation not only reflects the district’s commitment to operational efficiency but also pays tribute to the legacy of Edythe J. Brown, the esteemed namesake of the former Brown Intermediate School," school officials said. "Edythe Brown began her illustrious teaching career in South Bend in 1896, and her impact on education in the community continues to be revered."
