SBCSC tables proposal to change start time for school

The South Bend Community School Corporation has tabled a proposal to change school start times.

The proposal would have meant students could sleep a little longer and head to school later.

Instead, school board member Bill Sniadecki says the council will not consider the change for at least another year, saying one of the reasons to table the proposal is because of a shortage of school bus drivers.

“There's just too many issues; bus transportation is one big issue. It's always a big problem at the beginning of the year with buses anyway. To try and pull this off without proper planning would be a disaster,” says Sniadecki.

Another reason the school board decided to table the time change proposal was because it could conflict with scheduling for school sports.
