SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Santa's Elficers were out in full force this morning, as the South Bend Police Department began the gift deliveries that will bring joy to hundreds of kids across Michiana.
Over a thousand gifts were donated and wrapped over the last few weeks!
The Elficers program is growing each year, going from having only a few officers running the show, to now having to call in assistance from the fire department and marines just to deliver the presents in time.
"We've been doing it for several years. It was probably the last five where we teamed up with Officer North cut and Officer McMurray and some civilians, and it basically the program just began to explode and get bigger every single year, to the point now where we had to, we had to recruit some help. And so, we got the fire department in. They're helping us deliver today, as well as the Marines. We had to, we had to call in the big guns to come help us," stated President of P 36 Joshua Morgan.
Local groups of volunteers also helped with wrapping the thousands of gifts in preparation of delivery day, like Saint Joesph County Child Support Division and Gospel City Church.
