School canceled after bus batteries stolen

HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. -- School was cancelled Monday for some students in Hendricks County after thieves broke into the bus yard and stole the batteries out of some of the buses.

The sheriff's department says about 17 small batteries were stolen out of 6 buses.

Police were called out to the bus yard early Monday morning when someone reported suspicious activity.

"We are currently waiting for video surveillance from Cascade High School to see if they picked up anything on that. At that point in time we will try to get that person or person identified," said Jim Yetter of the Hendricks County Sheriff Department.

School officials said without those buses there was no way they could get all 1,500 students to school Monday but will find a way to make sure students get to class Tuesday.
