School placed on lockdown during investigation in South Bend

Harrison Primary School was locked down for approximately half an hour Tuesday while South Bend Police investigated reports of shots fired in the area.

Police received a call of shots fired near Illinois and Washington around 1:30 p.m.

As police arrived, they saw multiple people running from the area.

As a safety precaution, Harrison Primary was placed on lockdown.

Sue Coney, the spokeswoman for South Bend Community School Corporation, says the school complied with police's request.

Coney said the lockout only lasted about 30 minutes and was lifted before dismissal.
