ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Commissioners announced they have closed C.R. 142, between C.R. 42 and C.R. 29 until further notice to assess the condition of a bridge over the Elkhart River.

Officials say Elkhart County routinely inspects its bridges using both in-house engineers and a third-party civil engineering firm.

After a recent inspection, officials said it was recommended the bridge be closed until further investigations determine the next steps before opening the bridge to traffic.

County commissioners say they will share more information soon once the next steps have been determined for opening the bridge.
