DOWAGIAC, Mich. --- A camera from a nearby athletic field house caught a scary plane crash in Dowagiac on Saturday.
Dowagiac Police Department said the 54-year-old man piloting the plane was treated for minor injuries at the scene. His passenger, a 51-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for non-lifethreatening injuries.
“Four o’ clock in the morning I came in and ‘Yep, I have a plane crash on my camera,’” said Brian Antisdel, owner of IT3 Computer, Networking and Security.
Antisdel donated cameras to the Dowagiac Youth Soccer League to catch thieves wanting to steal equipment. He said the camera on the fieldhouse, which is about a quarter mile from the tarmac, caught the entire scene.
“It’s very shocking,” he said. “It kind of struck home like ‘Man, I hope nobody’s dead or hurt or anything’ but thank God they’re not.”
The video shows the private plane picking up speed for take off, almost getting off the ground, when it somersaulted back to the down.
“We can see pretty much everything that goes on here, since we’re investing so much money,” he said. “It’s now taken care of security wise.”
Antisdel said the FAA has grabbed the video from his camera as they continue their investigation.
