Semi rolls over in Benton Harbor roundabout Thursday morning
UPDATE: The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced that traffic has been restored to the intersection / roundabout.
ORIGINAL: BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety is advising motorists to avoid the roundabout at N. Main Street and Riverview Drive just across the bridge into Benton Harbor due to a semitruck that has rolled over.
Initial reports indicate that there were no injuries in the rollover, but the eastbound lanes heading into Benton Harbor are heavily impacted and temporarily closed.
From St. Joseph Harbor Master Michael Moran:
While leaving Central Dock to watch the Manitowoc turn, I was first on scene of a rollover semi accident in the roundabout at West Main and Riverview Drive.
A semi trailer loaded with cement (from our local terminal) had rolled over, blocking the road. Fortunately there were no injuries.
I want to thank Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Transportation and Benton Harbor Public Works for a quick response after I called it in. I also want to thank Hasse's Towing and Crane Service L.L.C. for righting the trailer and towing it away for the contents to be transferred to another trailer to complete the trip.
While I missed the Manitowoc turning and departing, I am glad that many of you saw it and captured it. Before anyone asks: I do not know the cause of the accident. I will not speculate, and I ask others not to as well.
