SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Jeremy Allen is a 46-year-old veteran in hospice currently struggling with mobility issues that keep him mostly confined to an electric wheelchair.
Allen recently took a hard fall on the concrete steps outside of his home; the only route for him to get to the outdoors.
With these continued struggles, Allen reached out to Servants at Work or SAWs, which provides the disabled with wheelchair ramps.
SAWs came out to Allen's home Saturday morning around 8 a.m. and completed the ramp by 2 p.m.
Allen says he's extremely grateful for the ramp, as he's felt trapped inside lately due to poor air quality in Michiana.
"I had cancer very badly. Beat it. Got congestive heart failure and I'm on oxygen. Without these guys, I really thought this summer was going to be my last one." said Allen.
Thanks to the ramp, Allen can now visit the very neighbors he wants to look out for by spreading the word about what SAWs can do for the community.
