MADISON TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- Madison Township Fire Department was called to a home off Fir Road just before 8 p.m. Thursday night. When firefighters arrived, flames were ripping through the home's barn. Seven neighboring fire departments were called in to help put out the fire.
Firefighters say the family has several hunting dogs that were kept in the barn. The family was very upset, sobbing and consoling each other because no one has been yet to find the dogs that were inside the barn when the blaze started.
Firefighters say this barn fire, property which belongs to a former volunteer firefighter from their department, is the biggest fire they have seen this year.
"Well our station is approximately a mile from here and the building was fully involved. There were flames shooting high off the roof, it was very easy to see the flames from 331 over here," says Capt. Jeff Groves with the Madison Township fire Department.
Firefighters says they still have no idea what caused the fire, but say they will continue to investigate.
