Shot fired during armed robbery in Benton Harbor

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – Officers are searching for a suspect in the robbery of a cab driver Tuesday morning around 8:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Bellview Street in Benton Harbor.

Officers from the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety responded to the scene  and located the driver of the taxi.

The driver told officers he was dispatched to the area to pick up a subject. Upon arriving, the suspect got into the cab, pulled a gun and demanded money from the driver.

During a struggle, a shot was fired inside the cab.

The suspect fled with an unknown amount of cash.

The victim also ran from the scene.

There were no injuries in the incident.

A K-9 unit was dispatched to the scene and tracked the suspect for one to two blocks before losing the scent.
