BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – One person was arrested following a shots fired report on Grant Street Wednesday afternoon, the St. Joseph Charter Township Police Department reported.

At 1:45 p.m., officers arrived to the 700 block of Grant Street for a shots fired report.

Officers were told that during an argument, a male had fired a single round into the air and then left the scene on foot towards Niles Road.

Officers from several departments set up a perimeter where the suspect was last seen and K9 Officer Otto located him hiding behind a dumpster behind a business on Niles Road, reports said.

He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Berrien County Jail.

The charges against him are pending review.

K9 Otto also located the handgun the suspect allegedly tried to hid in a large wood pile, reports said.
