Silver Hawks honors service of Michiana vets

SOUTH BEND, Ind.  — The South Bend Silver Hawks celebrated the service of Michiana veterans.

On Thursday, the team held a special viewing of the movie Honor Flight at Coveleski Stadium.

The money raised Thursday will help send local vets to a special World War II memorial in Washington, D.C.

"We want to be more than just a baseball team, and that's one of the things we're looking at. I don't want people to forget the sacrifices these men did for us," said Silver Hawks President Joe Hart.

More than 1,000 World War II veterans die every single day.
