Single vehicle crash leads to arrest in Elkhart County

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. --  Elkhart Police officers responded to a single-vehicle crash near C.R. 127 and C.R. 52 in Syracuse, Indiana, on Sunday at approximately 11:55 a.m. 

The investigation shows that the driver of a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee had unsafe lane movements and drove off the road on the east side of the C.R. 127 and impacting a utility pole, and continued northbound, coming to a rest at the intersection of C.R. 52. 

The driver was transported to the Goshen Hospital by on-scene medics for pain in the head and knees. Officers with the Elkhart sheriff's office conducted a standardized Field sobriety test, where he showed signs of impairment. 

The driver was then arrested for operating while intoxicated and transported ot the Elkhart County Jail for intake and was also cited for unsafe lane movement.
