WARSAW, Ind. -- The Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation confirmed to ABC57 News that Slate Auto, an electric vehicle start-up, will open a factory in Warsaw at the brownfield site of the former catalog factory that shuttered in 2023.

Officials say this is part of Slate's commitment to reindustrialization. Slate plans to bring over 2,000 jobs to the area.

The Slate EVs are expected to be produced in Warsaw in 2026.

“As a company focused on reindustrialization, Slate is the perfect fit to bring new life into the former LSC Communications site. Slate’s investment will not only revitalize this space but also energize our community with 2,000 planned jobs and boost our local economy when production begins in 2026," said KEDCO CEO Peggy Friday.

Slate's vehicle is described on the company's website as an affordable two-seat pickup truck, otherwise known as the "blank Slate," which can be customized with several kits that increase the seating capacity, among other changes.
