Snow plow drivers gather for safety preparation

PLYMOUTH, Ind.--It’s still fall, but INDOT is already gearing up for the snow.

Tuesday, nearly 50 snow plow drivers gathered at the Plymouth INDOT station to test out their plowing skills. Drivers had to avoid mailboxes, drive through tight curves, and back into narrow alleys.

"Driving in an obstacle course is one thing because you're in a controlled environment but when they get out there with the elements and cars driving around you,” said Jim Pinkerton, spokesman for INDOT. “That’s when it really challenges our drivers and that's why we really want them to be comfortable."

The drivers were given scores based on how few cones they hit and how well they followed safety guidelines.
