Snow showers and bitter cold temperatures ahead

ABC57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Forecast

Sunday, January 18th, 2025

The Winter Weather Advisory has been extended to Northern LaPorte, St. Joseph IN, and Elkhart counties, from 7PM this evening through 1PM on Monday (Berrien and Cass still included). The rest of Michiana is under a Cold Weather Advisory from 7AM Monday to 9AM Tuesday as temperatures plummet and winds pick up to start the week.

The chance for widespread system snow increases overnight ahead of a cold front. After the front passes, winds will become gusty and more Northwesterly--revamping lake effect snow overnight. SW Michigan will likely receive an additional 3-6+ inches. Lesser amounts of 1-3 inches expected along the Toll Road--trace amounts in areas along and south of US-30. The cold front will also bring bitter cold temperatures with wind chill values well below zero.

Overall impacts include low visibility due to falling and blowing snow, dangerously cold temperatures, and slick and snow-covered roads. Though many people may not be on roads because of the holiday, Monday morning's commute will be difficult. Temperatures gradually warm to the 20s and 30s by midweek, but snow chance remain through the weekend.

Tonight: Breezy, very cold. Widespread snow transitioning into lake effect for Northern Michiana. Low 8.

MLK Day: Lake effect snow continues through the AM. Breezy, bitterly cold. High 12.

Tuesday: Dangerously cold AM. Mix of sun and clouds, breezy. High 18.

Wednesday: Snow likely. Near normal temps. High 30.
