Some mosquitoes test positive for West Nile in St. Joseph County Indiana

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Some mosquitoes in St. Joseph County have tested positive for the West Nile Virus.

County health department officials collected the pool on South Bend's east side.

Mosquitoes in Elkhart County already tested positive last month.

Health department officials say this may be the worst year ever for the virus.

West Nile can cause fever, body aches and in severe cases death.

The best way to protect yourself:

  • Avoid being outside at dusk and dawn
  • Use bug spray with DEET
  • And look around your house for any standing water
