Someone steals cash register from Taco Bell

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Just a few days before Christmas and people everywhere are hitting the malls.  But for those in need, this time of year can be extremely stressful.

According to South Bend Police, the closer we get to Christmas, the more robberies they see.

Between 5 -10 a.m. Saturday, a cash register was stolen from the Taco Bell on LaSalle Avenue.

"I couldn't believe that it actually happened.  It's really sad that people have to get that desperate around the holidays." said Michael Doty, a resident of South Bend.

Police say the drive through window was left unlocked when the restaurant was closed last night.

Someone opened the window, took the register and fled.

According to the police report, the register had $100 in it.

South Bend Police advise all who are going out of town for the holidays to lock their doors and set their alarms, they see the most break-ins while people are out of town.
