South Bend children get free haircuts for back-to-school

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The start of the new school year is just around the corner and in addition to the new backpack, some South Bend students are going back in style.

Children got free hair cuts at the Monroe Circle Community Center in South Bend on Monday.

Councilman Henry Davis, Jr. and NIPSCO sponsored the Hair Kutz 4 Kidz event.

They said it is just the thing kids need to get focused on going back to school.

"The old saying, it takes a village to raise a child, and that's what this is," community center Direct   LeRoy King III said. "It's the whole community, grandmas and grandpas, moms and dads coming together to help their child have a good first step in their school year."

Dozens of kids ended up getting free haircuts. The event wrapped up Monday afternoon.
