SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The board of trustees adopted the new boundaries in a 4-2 vote, with one abstention.

However, it was clear, many Clay parents were still holding out hope pressure from the public could change the new Facilities Master Plan

"All the public meetings we had where the people came out and talked from their heart with tears in their eyes about keeping open Clay High School and nothing has changed,” said one board member Mark Costello who did not vote in favor of the boundaries.

Despite Pushback, Clay High School is still set to close.

The boundaries and feeders plans have not changed since last presented in September, leaving many even some board members feeling unheard after years of meetings and surveys.

"Most the parents I heard from comment they expected it and now they have tough choices to make,” said taxpayer John Paczesny.

Current Clay Students will be able to choose which school they would like to attend, while receiving priority and transportation at the remaining schools until December 15th.

All existing students will be able to find transportation, though may have to find their own way to school in the future if outside their boundary.

Some are worried this may overpopulate the already crowded Adam’s High School.

With Fall 2024 quickly approaching, Superintendent Todd Cummings is still encouraging people to not worry and promising more information and guidance.

"Don’t worry, letters are coming out to every parent. We’ll have our entire school out at showcase of schools on November 1st. We’ll have a call center after that, so you'll have folks you'll be able to call and get your questions answered,” said Cummings after the vote.

With so much to unpack here, the first showcase of schools on November 1 will be an opportunity for parents to plug in their address, see what options are available, and make the best choice for their students.
