SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A cold spell in Michiana is here just in time for the South Bend Cubs home opener on Tuesday, but will tomorrow’s high of forty degrees be the coldest opening?
Over the past 20 seasons the Cubs have opened in some downright frigid conditions, with the coldest opening day that I could find in 2018, a high of 32 degrees.
2007 came close with a high of 33 degrees, but if our high for tomorrow is 40 degrees, the 2025 opener will be the third coldest.
This is in stark contrast to last year, one of the warmest years in recent memory, the 2024 opener with a high of 71, the year before the hottest home opener for the cubs.
