South Bend Fire Department invites residents to open house
SOUTH BEND, Ind. –South Bend residents are invited to attend the Fire Prevention Week open house on Sunday, October 14th.
The theme for Fire Prevention Week is “Look, Listen and Learn”.
“We want to remind residents that with cooler months approaching, people spend more time in the kitchen cooking, where most home fires start. Some tips to prevent kitchen fires are to stay in the kitchen when cooking or to use a timer. Unattended cooking is the leading cause of kitchen fires, and these fires are preventable,” said South Bend Fire Chief Steve Cox.
South Bend fire stations will offer free blood pressure screenings, car-seat safety checks, and help creating fire escape plans.
The open house will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:
- Fire Station 1 at 1222 S. Michigan St.
- Fire Station 3 at 1805 McKinley Ave.
- Fire Station 6 at 4302 Western Ave.
- Fire Station 10 at 5303 York Rd.
