South Bend Fire hosting grand opening of new River Park fire station

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Fire Department will be offering tours of the new Fire Station 9 in the River Park neighborhood on July 15 at 10 a.m. during the grand opening celebration.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg, South Bend Councilwoman Sharon McBride, South Bend City Clerk Kareemah Fowler, members of the Boards of Public Safety and Works, and Fire Chief Steve Cox will attend the official ribbon cutting and dedication.

The new station is at 2108 Mishawaka Avenue.

Fire Chief Stephen Cox said over “the past 20 years or more, several locations, designs, and capabilities have been proposed for this fire station. After an exhaustive process that included multiple public meetings, presentations to local boards, commissions, and community groups, and one on one discussions with citizens, a site was acquired that fit the needs of the Department and found balance between the need for service delivery and quality of life for people on the east side of the City.”

Fire Station 9 will house Engine 9, Medic 9 and Boat 1.
