South Bend firefighter and family receive special gift

Wednesday, a South Bend firefighter and his family received a very special holiday surprise.

“I thought we were just coming for a quick visit to see daddy, and had no idea,” Rosary Comeau, wife of Josh Comeau said.

But when Rosary brought her five children to Station 9, she and the kids were surprised with a trip to Splash Universe, and a pack full of gifts for the family.

Josh is thrilled.

“I’m so happy that we’re able to go on this trip to just create new memories and have those moments,” Josh said.

His moments are limited.

For two years, he’s been living with terminal brain cancer.

“Right now at this point in my life, it’s just the most important thing for me to be around my family and to have that time with them,” Josh said.

That’s why Home for Heroes, the organization that set the gift up, decided on a family trip.

“It’s just all been such a beautiful gift,” Rosary said.

It’s a gift that means so much more than all expenses paid.

“I don’t see tragedy when I look at this. I see people just giving. It’s just neat to see people respond when somebody’s in need,” Josh said.
