South Bend jewelry store owner robbed, beaten at gunpoint

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A South Bend jewelry store owner was held up at gunpoint and beaten over the head on Monday, shortly before noon.

It all went down off of Ironwood Rd., outside of Christopher Allen Jewelry.

The owner told police that he locked the store and was taking his dog for a walk when a guy pointed a gun at him and demanded money.

According to police, the store owner gave the man money and then was beaten over the head with what he believed to be a gun.

South Bend police caught the man in his car about a mile away, near the corner of State Road 23 and 27th Street. Indiana State Police also assisted at the scene.

Police have not released the suspect's name.
