South Bend man sentenced to 5 years in federal prison

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A South Bend man was sentenced to 5 years in prison for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The defendant, Larry Cole, 46, must also serve 2 years supervised release.

Court documents say in May 2017, Cole sold over 3 grams of cocaine to a person working for the St. Joseph County Drug Interdiction Unit.

While serving a search warrant at the home in South Bend where the drugs were sold, officers saw Cole running from the rear of the home to the living room and reach under the couch for a .45-caliber handgun, court documents state.

Officers said Cole had over $1,000 in cash and a small amount of cocaine. Some of the cash was from the sale of drugs the day before.
