South Bend Medical searching for blood donors

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Local health centers are in need of blood donors.

Officials at the South Bend Medical Foundation say the cold and snow is preventing donors from giving blood. Several blood drives have even had to be cancelled because of the weather.

Inventory is getting extremely low especially for A and O negative blood types.

They are even offering two $1,000 vacation getaways in an effort to get donors in the door.

"So with all the snow that is dropping, everybody is about to go out on the roads, so just think of sunnier happier places and I think that will get people down here to donate," said Colleen Hahn, South Bend Medical Foundation.

They have locations in Elkhart, South Bend and Mishawaka. If you have not donated in the past 56 days, you are eligible and urged to come in.
