South Bend mother charged for abusing 9-year-old son

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A South Bend mother of two is facing child neglect and abuse charges.
Police say they arrested 40-year-old Michelle Pickens Monday night.
According to neighbors, she was drunk, screaming and choking her 9-year-old son. They say it happened in the front yard of their home off South Falcon Street, that’s on the city's West Side.
Pickens’ 9-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter are now in the custody of child services.
